The Black Country Living Museum
During our visit to the Black Country Living Museum, the children stepped back in time to discover what life was like in the Black Country in the past. Through exploring historic buildings, shops and homes, they learned how people lived, worked and played during the Victorian and early twentieth century.
The children found out about traditional jobs such as mining, metalworking and shopkeeping, and learned how these industries helped shape our local area. By speaking to costumed characters, they gained a deeper understanding of daily life, including school, household routines and the challenges people faced in the past.
The visit brought history to life and helped the children develop important skills such as asking questions, observing carefully and making comparisons between life then and now. It also strengthened their sense of local identity and pride in the Black Country, giving them a real connection to the history they learn about in school.
