We are living in a rapidly evolving digital world. At Mount Pleasant, our computing curriculum aims to provide children with the skills and knowledge to access technology, whilst keeping themselves safe and building meaningful relationships with one another whilst being compassionate with one another.

The core of computing is computer science, in which pupils are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming.

Computing also ensures that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves, take pride in what they produce and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology - at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active, respectful participants in a digital world.

We use Purple Mash as a basis for all our curriculum coverage in computing, developing resilience when debugging coding systems. The use of this website means children are taught a range of skills and knowledge progressively through fun and engaging topics. These are linked where possible to our Learning Adventures.

National Curriculum

The National Curriculum aims for Computing are that all pupils:

  • Can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms and data representation.
  • Can analyse problems in computational terms and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.
  • Can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems.
  • Are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.
